A friend is no longer in need of keeping his dad's old car and short of uber, price is no object. He's not had a choice in vehicle for years because free car.

Cannot be a service queen, it breaks three times and it will be rid of. Yeah that sort.

Difficulty: taking aged parent to doctor visits. Tendency to get tickets due to confidence in road-going. Confused by my fandom of Top Gear.

So out of the current batch, I threw a few likely candidates out here. And one that I will insist at least a test drive. For hoon.

NO SUVS all wheel drive is okay but capacity for at least 4 people comfy.

Good performance, fun to drive, but doesn't trigger stoplight races.

Again, he tolerates but is puzzled by the ways of Top Gear.

Chevy SS? nobody knows what it is, possible good resale, 4 doors.

Foreign marques might make the list, but he's got a twisted sense of patriotism so domestic leaning.

Ford Fusion Titanium 2.0 Ecoboost AWD. My semi-aged parents love the comfy seats in my fusion, and my 87 year old grandmother has easy ingress and egress,

Not the flashiest option, but i think a damn good all around car, given the conditions. Charger R/T AWD or 300S AWD might be a nice choice as well.

Is Miata not always the answer?

Paradox alert:

The judges will take that into consideration. if this is allowed, the series and it's varied questions are done for...

And he just grew the mustache back.

Conservative: parking in the patient, not the doctor spaces.

550i/S6? Plenty of fun and comfort when you need it. Yet, they are total sleepers to non-gear-heads.

SS seems to be the perfect sleeper. Please tell him to get the manual.

Not as much of a performer as an M3, but roomier and more covert.

CTS-V? Charger Hellcat?

Lexus GS 350 F-Sport. It's seriously stylish, fun to drive without being too boisterous, and should never have any issues.

Regardless of what is actually purchased, a test drive is in order, even if just the sport package.

A friend of theirs has a Miata, So they've been exposed to the radioactivity.

Toyota 86 might be a wild card due to former Celica ownership BITD

Here's an example of my challenge in this task:

I spot a fairly rare vehicle for these parts.

Hey.. look.

What?

That car.

What's special about it?

Look.. (they have no idea, so to save time.. ) It's a Tesla.

Oh. Those are those cars that are too expensive.

Don't they just sell those on the West coast? (Car had local tag)

Um... well, in a sense, yes, and that second part was not even worth trying.

(marks Tesla off of list)

Reality: will probably get the most boring Cadillac in the line that isn't truck-based.

Yawn..

it seems trending toward Lexus, whichever model is the Camry of luxury.

Its accolades are white noise of positive competence.

However, I will try desperately to steer them toward 'sport' model.

Life, short, distance, shorter.

Where's the excitement of exotic technologies breaking down often?

Ah well. Now let's see what color he goes for:

Pearl white

White

Dark Ivory

Beige

And will not complain. Rationality, I have little of it.

Well, I'm trying.

The trick seems to be to steer them towards a cluster and let them decide and feel it was their decision. It's a minefield. Can't suggest an SS because they will associate it with historic Germany . Yeah, that sort of brainset. I would special-order LS badges from some other model if it would make the deal ;)

But, it's an interesting phenomenon to observe and assist best I can. They've been driving free hand-me-downs for years and it's the first time they've really truly gotten to choose.

So I can understand their reluctance to take suggestions.

In that case, encourage them to test drive absolutely everything, regardless of any crazy reason for them to not like it. Make it an intellectual pursuit for them. Why not sample everything at the buffet if you have the opportunity before you pay?

Exactly. Plus I personally would like to see these cars of the 21st century. I've heard so much about them.

I love my car, and am convinced I made the right choice, but I still wish I'd test driven more cars before I bought mine two years ago. But then again, I'm a weirdo. Normal people may have no interest in taking the time. However, you could do this on their behalf!
